Sholay is arguably one of the best known Hindi films ever made. We look at some more interesting facts about Sholay – some which you may know, some you may not.

Fact 1: Danny Denzongpa was the first choice to play Gabbar Singh.
Fact 2: The famous 'Kitne Aadmi Te' scene took over 40 takes to be shot.
Fact 3: Shatrughan Sinha was considered for the part of Jai, which eventually went to Amitabh Bachchan.
Fact 4: Dharmendra took the role of Veeru because he would be paired opposite Hema Malini, when in fact he really wanted to play the role of Thakur.
Fact 5: The film was the first to enjoy a 25-week run in over 100 cinemas.
Fact 6: The village of Ramnagar where Sholay was shot is popularly known as Ramgarh. The people also call it Sippynagar to respect the director.
Fact 7: In 1999, BBC India called Sholay the 'Film of the Millennium'. It also topped the all-time poll of the best Indian films conducted by the British Film Institute.
