The Selection Process
Find out exactly how your submission form is reviewed and how your film is selected.
The selection process for the website
The Fresh online team (executive producer, producer and assistant producer(s)) view all films and assess whether they comply with the terms and conditions.
Broadly, the team will check that your film is not offensive, defamatory, gives commercial brands undue prominence or contravenes another person’s right to privacy. You can read a summary of each of these issues here.
We will also be ensuring that written consent has been obtained for the people who appear in your film. Find out more about consent here.
If specially composed music is used you will need to report precisely how it is used using this music reporting form. You may also be asked for evidence that you have obtained the right to use it in your film.
If the team is satisfied that the film complies with the terms and conditions, your film will be published on the Fresh website.
Films that do not comply with the terms and conditions
If your film does not comply with the terms and conditions it will not be published on Fresh Online. You will receive an email informing you of this decision.
If a small section or part of your film does not comply with the terms and conditions, you may be asked to remove that part and resubmit your film. You will receive an email requesting this.
If you decide not to change your film, in order to comply with the terms and conditions, your film will not be published on Fresh Online.
The selection process for films to be reviewed
From time to time, we will publish feedback for films submitted to Fresh Online. Feedback will be given by established documentary film-makers, documentary film festival programmers or BBC documentary staff.
The Fresh Online producer will choose which films to send for review and feedback. Not all films will be reviewed on the site. This decision will be based on factors such as: would a review of the film provide information that others can learn from; would a review of the film provide information on issues that arise in many other of the submitted films and would a review of the film be a useful basis for a wider discussion on the Fresh Online site?
The selection process for inclusion in any broadcast programme
The BBC Three Fresh Commissioning Executive and/or the programme director will decide which films or clips to include. They will make their decision based on the following criteria: does the clip fulfill the brief as set out in this submission information; are the sound and picture quality acceptable; and does it fit the director’s creative vision for the compilation programme? The executive and director’s decisions are final.
If your film is selected for broadcast you may be asked for a higher quality copy of your film so please retain a copy at the highest possible quality.
The timescale
The closing date for the first round of submissions to Fresh Online was 31 January 2015, measing the deadline for submissions has now passed.
