7 things we've learned from Radio 2's latest star guests

Not to toot our own trumpets, but Radio 2 is never exactly short on high calibre visitors. This past week has been a particularly fantastic one when it comes to guests, with the likes of Kylie Minogue, David Tennant and Olly Murs all coming through the doors.

Here are some of the very best moments for you to enjoy...

1. Kylie loves line dancing

The lovely legend that is Kylie Minogue came into Graham Norton's show recently for her first in-depth radio interview in absolutely ages, talking all about her forthcoming new album Golden.

From what we know so far, Golden (partly written in Nashville) will have a country and western flavour. Kylie revealed that she's now partial to a spot of bona fide line dancing, as evidenced in the fabulous video for Golden.

"We all found it exhausting," she said, "Because you're so straight up the top and it's the lower half, the engine, that's just pumping doing everything. But when you get it right you feel like a champ."

2. David Tennant's favourite Doctor Who is a family affair

Q&A with David Tennant on The Zoe Ball Show

Zoe asks David to answer some listeners' questions

David Tennant came into The Zoe Ball Show to chat all about his new film You, Me and Him. David famously played the tenth incarnation of The Doctor between 2005 and 2010, and young listener Kian wanted to know who HIS favourite Doctor is.

"Well, I love them all in very special and unique ways," he said, "Although there is one I tend to see at family gatherings. So, my father-in-law has to get a special mention." David is referring, of course, to his wife Georgia Moffett's Dad, Peter Davison, who played the fifth Doctor between 1981 and 1984.

Interestingly, David and Georgia met when she appeared on the show, playing The Doctor's daughter. We can only imagine the levels of Doctor Who fabulousness at family gatherings!

3. Olly Murs was planning to go travelling before The Voice

Olly Murs chats to Dermot about travelling and working on The Voice

Olly talks to Dermot about travelling to places he doesn't get to see when on tour.

Olly Murs has been delighting fans as a coach on The Voice, and is also working on a new album. But before the opportunity to take part in the TV talent show came along, he revealed to Dermot that he had been planning to "do an Ed Sheeran" and disappear to go travelling for a while.

"I honestly couldn't wait," he said. "There's so many parts of the world that I haven't really got a chance to see. As an artist you travel around the world and promote your music but you don't really get a chance to see these amazing countries."

We're so glad that Olly stuck around when The Voice came calling. But next time you're planning a trip, leave some room for us in your suitcase?

4. EastEnders is the hardest thing Martine McCutcheon ever did

Martine McCutcheon on EastEnders: "It was the hardest thing I ever did"

Martine chats to Craig about new music and her upcoming 2018 tour.

Soap star turned superstar Martine McCutcheon came in for a brilliant chat with Craig Charles, who was covering for Steve Wright.

Craig, of course, was in Coronation Street for many years, while Martine was iconic as Tiffany on EastEnders in the 1990s.

While Martine has released huge albums including last year's Lost And Found, and appeared in major films such as Love Actually, she told Craig that her time on EastEnders is still the hardest job she's ever done.

"Soaps, rightly or wrongly (wrongly I think) are looked at as the lowest common denominator within the industry," she said. "But it's the hardest thing I ever did. 22 scenes a day, churning it out and having to cry God knows how many times at the drop of a hat."

5. David Oyelowo was inspired by Tom Cruise

David Oyelowo on Tom Cruise: "I've never seen an actor work as hard as he does"

Craig chats to David about starring in 'Gringo' with Charlize Theron and Joel Edgerton.

In-demand British actor David Oyelowo, star of TV classic Spooks as well as movies such as Selma, came in for a chat about his forthcoming roles in new film Gringo and BBC miniseries Les Misérables. (He is, as he puts it, "good busy.")

David has worked with oodles of Hollywood stars, but he was particularly impressed by Tom Cruise when they worked together on Jack Reacher. "I actually loved working with Tom," he said. "I like to think of myself as a very hard worker, he is the only actor I have ever worked with where I had to put my hands up and say, 'Ok, you take it here.' I've never seen an actor work as hard as he does, he just puts everything into everything he does."

6. Brenda Blethyn was a bit affronted when she first read Vera

Brenda Blethyn: "I was offended the first time I saw the 'Vera' script!"

Actress Brenda chats to Steve about starring in 'Vera' and the series 8 DVD release.

Brenda Blethyn is a legendary star of tv, film and theatre, and has now completed the eighth series of her much-loved detective show Vera.

Nevertheless, Brenda was less than chuffed the first time she read the script. "I was slightly offended!" she said, on Steve Wright In The Afternoon. "I said, 'Why have they thought of me for this role?!' She doesn't appear until half way though the book, and then it says, 'The door of the church opened and in lumbered this great lummox of a woman!' But then I read on and of course realised what a wonderful character she is."

7. Geri Horner is embracing the real her

Geri Horner: "We need to feel like we love eachother and we belong together"

Geri talks to Craig about the final of 'All Together Now' and those Spice Girl rumours.

Children's author, presenter, actress and singer Geri Horner came in to see Craig Charles recently, sharing her excitement (but no firm details) about the forthcoming Spice Girls reunion. (Which, it's fair to say, has got us all VERY excited.)

While in her Ginger Spice years Geri was famous for a bold, brash look and loads of make up, these days she's embracing a more relaxed and natural vibe.

'Trust me, I am vain," she said, "But there's something inside me that wants to have the inner strength to grow old gracefully, and to show that it's ok to have wrinkles and things like that."

"We all put on our Batman suit, we all put on that bravado when we go out the door. Whether it's your red lipstick or your smart tie. And also youthful bravado, we can all hide behind that. I've just got to the point where it's too exhausting to keep it up, and there's an integration and you just think, 'This is just me.'"
