Dizzee Rascal – Wot U Gonna Do?
The latest track from Dizzee Rascal’s sixth album “Raskit”. The man who put Grime on the map in the early 00’s is back with his first album in 4 years. “Wot U Gonna Do?” is the follow up to Dizzee’s first single from the new album “Space” which was released on 16th June “Raskit” is out on 21st July via Dizzee’s own label Dirtee Skank and Island Records. The Grime MC is leaving his previous dance and pop sounds behind and is going in a new, stripped-back direction. Dizzee says that his latest album focues on more rap-inspired beats with “the most English slang words as I could over the best beats I could find”.
Shabazz Palaces – Welcome To Quazarz
The first single from Shabazz Palaces’ fourth album “Quazaraz Vs The Jealous Machines” out on 14th July through Sub Pop Records. Their latest record is a double album with the record “Quazaraz Born On A Gangster Star” which is also out on 14th July. Both albums are concept records which feature the character “Quazaraz”. Quazaraz is a “wave warrior” who is sent to the dystopian states of Amurdeca to chronicle and explore music in this new world. In Amurdeca Quazaraz finds that humankind has formed a sensual relationship with technology and that technology has effectively imprisoned humans’ imagination. Shabazz Palaces are hip hop duo rapper and producer Palaceer Lazaro (real name Ishmael Butler) and multi-instrumentalist Tendai "Baba" Maraire. You can watch these guys in full rap swing in November in London, Manchester and Glasgow.
Mount Kimbie ft. King Krule – Blue Train Lines
Blue Train Lines is out now and is the latest single from Mount Kimbie’s upcoming third album “Love What Survives”, which is out on 8th September via Warp Records. This collaboration with Londoner King Krule is the latest taster from the new record. We have heard tracks “We Go Home Together” featuring James Blake and “Marilyn” featuring Micachu, which was previously on the 6 Music playlist. Mount Kimbie have been working on their latest album for the past 3 years, writing and rewriting their ideas to create a sound that is both unique and personal. Mount Kimbie are London based producing duo Dominic Maker and Kai Campos, and you can catch them live in October and November 2017.
Bird Brains is the title track from Holy F’s latest EP, which is out on 21st July via Innovative Leisure. It’s the first music we’ve heard from the Toronto electronica group since last year’s amazing fourth album “Congrats”. If you want to know what a real party looks like then check out the video for “Bird Brains”, which sees a man, with a bird’s head, raving in a club. Team Lauren are not the only Holy F fans as the late, great, Lou Reed saw the band play at SXSW in 2007 and was hugely impressed by them. Holy F is led by singer-songwriter Brian Borcherdt and Graham Walsh. The band live in both Canada and the US but always try to come together to record their music live. The band said that this EP “aim[s] to capture the raw energy of four people, not apart as bedroom producers, but together as a spirited exchange of ideas, a dynamic interaction that comes from years of friendship."
Eh Ya Ye – Trio Da Kali And Kronos Quartet
Served up as a song of advice which sheds light on the importance of being honest and recognising one’s own limitations ‘Eh Ya Ye’ is taken from the LP Ladilikan which is set for release on September 15th via World Circuit Records. The album is the result of taking a trio of the finest traditional griot musicians from Mali and uniting them in a studio with western music's most revolutionary Western string quartet. Together the Kronos Quartet and Trio da Kali have created an album that is rich in texture, hauntingly melodic and strikingly inventive as violins, viola and cello combine with balafon, ngoni and the powerful female voice of Hawa ‘Kassé Mady’ Diabaté in mystical style. David Harrington, who founded the Kronos Quartet in 1973, defines the album as “one of the most beautiful Kronos has done in forty years.” Team Lauren is definitely down with this description.
