Have you ever wanted to be a BBC presenter? Do you have a passion for Hull? And want to shout about the UK City of Culture? Do you have what it takes to come and join us in 2017?
We are looking for the face and voice of Hull 2017 UK City of Culture. This is an extraordinary opportunity to join the BBC reporting on events throughout 2017.
We are looking for that special someone who has character and personality
You will be primarily working for BBC Radio Humberside, BBC Look North and our BBC online pages however you could appear on any BBC programme.
What experience will I need?
You do not need any previous presenting experience and we do not expect you to be a journalist. We are simply looking for that special someone who has the character and personality to tell the stories of Hull2017 for our viewers, listeners and readers.
You will be given all the training you need and supported by BBC producers. Every day will be different and you will be flexible working various shifts covering events on TV, radio and online.
It is expected you will have strong connections to Hull. You should know a thing or two about arts and culture. You will also need to be 18 or over and be eligible to work in the UK.
How do I apply?
We are holding open auditions on Saturday 8 October at Hull Truck Theatre, 50 Ferensway, Hull, HU2 8LB
- You will need to arrive at the venue from 09:30 to register.
- You will need to provide your details and we will also take your photo part of the application.
- You will appear in front of a panel where you will have up to 1-minute to pitch why you are the person for this role.
- The panel are: Peter Levy (BBC Look North Presenter); Carl Wheatley (BBC Radio Humberside Presenter); Keeley Donovan (BBC Weather Presenter) and Helen Thomas (Head of BBC Yorkshire & Lincolnshire).
- You are welcome to do whatever you wish within this strict time.
- You will be filmed by BBC cameras and your audition may be used by the BBC for broadcast and/or appear on BBC online websites as well as official BBC social media accounts.
Please note you will be responsible for meeting your own travel expenses to the auditions.
What happens next?
A shortlist will be drawn-up on the day of people we would like to see again. All candidates will be contacted within the two weeks of the audition whether successful or not.
Shortlisted candidates will be asked to return for a further interview and screen test at the BBC in Hull on a date yet to be determined.
Working for the BBC
If you are successful in being selected for this opportunity you will be employed by the BBC on a 14-month fixed-term contract.
This will start no later than 1 December 2016 and run until 31 January 2018. On average you will be working 35-hours a week however the working days will vary across any given week to fit the demands of the Hull2017 schedule.
