BBC Fresh Profile: Sophie Piggott

Sophie Piggott talks about what inspired her to start making documentaries.

Home-made films shot with her family inspired Sophie to study film at university, where she became interested in documentary making.

How/why did you get started in documentary film-making?

I started by making films in the garden with my brothers purely to make my parents laugh which eventually led to me studying film at university, through that I became a big fan of documentary films, I love hearing the stories that people tell and the stories that you really don't expect people to tell.

Why did you pick this subject for Fresh?

My film carries a very personal message to make the most of what you have whilst you still have it, I want to try and get this message to as many people as I possibly can and BBC Fresh can help me do that.

What motivated you to make this film?

I always see people taking what they have for granted, I wanted to make this film to remind them that they should hug their loved ones because who knows what tomorrow brings. One life, live it.

What camera did you use to shoot your film?

I used a Canon 550D and a Canon 650D.

Who/what inspires you?

Creatively I am inspired by other short films, most of my friends are also student film makers and the amount of incredible short films they can create from nothing is an inspiration. Personally my family inspires me, my dad in particular, being a single parent and keeping a smile on your face every day is not an easy thing to do. If I can make him proud I'm happy.

What are your plans for the future?

I would love to be able to keep making documentaries, I love telling stories and if I can travel whilst doing it then that would be incredible.
