Birdy does Tracy Chapman's Fast Car in the Radio 1 Live Lounge

Birdy is in the Radio 1 Live Lounge with Clara.

Birdy didn't get the ideal start to her Live Lounge day. On a quick mid-tour stopover at home, she woke up to a disappointing cupboard and no breakfast. "Everything in my fridge is probably mouldy and disgusting," she told Scott sadly on her Wake Up Call.

But the lack of breakfast clearly wasn't affecting Birdy's voice. At the Radio 1 studio, she was in fine form for a solo piano version of her hit "Wild Horses".

For Birdy's Live Lounge cover, she chose to take on a beloved classic in Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car" - a song that's also been a hit this year, in a very different style, for Jonas Blue and Dakota.

Chapman's self-titled 1988 debut album, which "Fast Car" was originally from, was a favourite of Birdy's dad - but she remembers constantly stealing it from him to play in her bedroom. "I know every word off by heart, it's very special to me," she said. And the fans felt she did it justice.
