Feeding frenzy Vox pop: If there is a whiff of scandal somewhere, particularly with a famous person, the newspapers do jump on it and try to attack the story like a group of sharks. And there’s a huge kind of feeding frenzy because the story is there, there’s a whiff of scandal and everybody wants to get to it as quickly as possible. Tony Thorne: Feeding frenzy now refers especially to the ugly scenes of frenzied excitement that happen when the media decide to combine to attack someone's reputation. The UK media, especially the newspapers, are famous for getting together in a pack, to attack a public figure or an unpopular group in society. Feeding frenzy can also describe other cases of groups of people competing frantically to get what they want - crowds of shoppers fighting to get into a shop when the seasonal sales are on, for example, or investors hoping to cash in on a stock market boom.
