LESSON 13
Cinema therapy

Cinema therapy is the new, hot, must-have experience. It works like this. You feel worthless and miserable.

You are rich enough to be able to do something about it immediately. So you go and see a therapist.

Instead of discussing difficult and painful issues, he hands you over a tape of a fun movie.

It's a win-win transaction - you get to watch a movie and the shrink gets your money.

The downside to cinema therapy is that it can work. You watch a movie and become a new person with all your traumas sorted.

That's not good - for your therapist. Restored to good mental health his patient may soon figure out that it's cheaper to rent a video.

Hmm… yes… The therapist may therefore find it desirable to proceed with the second stage of the treatment, in which the movies prescribed are real downers.

An ideal would be a movie that makes his patient feel worthless and miserable, so that he can seek further treatment.
