LESSON 22
Video conferencing

V1: I'm really worried. I've got important meetings to attend in Washington and here in London at the end of the month, one day after the next! Well, if I fly back from Washington on the Monday, I'm concerned I'll be too tired for the meeting the next day.

V2: Well why don't you try video conferencing the Washington meetings?

V1: Of course, why didn't I think of that?

Video conferencing is when you use sound equipment and a video camera to talk across the internet. You can talk to two or more people who are in different places. You can hear them and see them, they can hear you and see you and they can even see and hear each other! And you don’t even have to leave your home, to do a bit of video conferencing, you know. Easy.

Video conferencing has many benefits. You don’t have to travel. You can save time and money. True, they can see you, but you can see them, too. And you want to see their faces, too. It’s easier to judge what someone is thinking, if you can see them. For example, when you make an offer to buy out a company, if they yawn … it means that they’re not interested … or tired maybe… oh, I don’t know, why don’t you just give them more money!
