Miss Universe Nigeria, Chidimma Adetshina, wey emerge first runner up for Miss Universe 2024 pageant competition don tok say she go respond to di mata of her South African citizenship wen she understand di issues.

Chidimma tok for exclusive interview with BBC Pidgin when she land Nigeria after her successful outing for Mexico wia she make record for di kontri.

Di 23-year-old, wey represent Nigeria for di Miss Universe competition, compete alongside 125 representatives from oda kontris for di 73rd Miss Universe pageant, wey happen for Arena CDMX for Mexico City, on Saturday 16 November, 2024.

On Saturday night, Miss Denmark, Victoria Kjr Theilvig win di 2024 Miss Universe title while Chidimma emerge first runner up for di competition.

She bin face criticism as some pipo question her eligibility to compete for di South Africa Miss Universe bicos her mama get Mozambican roots and her father na Nigerian.

Ms Adetshina, wey be law student, bin go on to win Miss Universe Nigeria afta di organisers bin invite her to participate for di beauty pageant.

As she bin dey Mexico dey prepare for di Miss Universe competition, tori comot again from South African goment say dem wan withdraw Chidimma identity and travel documents.

During her welcome back party to Nigeria on Thursday, Chidimma tell BBC Pidgin say she neva get di full details of wetin dey happun wit her identity issue for South Africa as she neva follow lawyer tok but once she get more information she go address di mata.

"Pipo really dey interested in di story. And like I bin say, I neva go home, I neva hear anything. I neva sit down with lawyer or anything. So I no fit just tok about tins," she tok.

"So once I get everything sorted out, I go definitely open up and give pipo clarity on di mata.

'My goal bin be to reach top 30'

Chidimma say she bin wan cry for di Miss Universe stage wen dem call her up for di top five contestants as she bin no expect am.

She say she bin set a target to reach top 30 and bin don zero her mind on dat.

Chidimma say she dey proud of her self say she exceed her own expectations.

"Obviously, all of us want di crown, but na only one winner, and we be 125. So I gat to really focus my mind, on making sure I achieve wetin I really want to. And I actually pass my top 30. For me, I just dey like, top 30. So di fact say I pass my expectations, I dey really proud of myself."

She also speak on di support wey she get from Nigerians and Africans.

"Just like getting to dat stage, I dey so proud, and knowing say I get big amount of support, not only from Nigerians, but from Africa, na overwhelming experience, becos I neva reson am say I go receive dis love and support, and e feel so refreshing to actually feel so loved and so accepted. I just dey tok from my heart."

'I no go participate for any beauty pageant again for now'

Chidimma say she no go participate in any beauty pageant again for now as she wan focus on herself and on her education.

“I wan put pageant to bed right now, but I go focus more on my education and obviously establishing who Chidimma be, more into runways, more into acting, so many tins I go like to touch on and really see wia my potentials fit go." Chidimma tok.

As Miss Universe Africa and Oceania, Chidimma tok say she go dey work wit di Miss Universe organisers on different projects

She say she neva sabi wetin dem go dey do exactly but e go involve travelling to kontris to do projects

"So we all get different titles. We go dey fly out to different kontris and get different project, wey go happun for di specific kontris," Chidimma tok.

"We neva get clarity yet as to wetin we go dey do exactly, but we know for sure say we go dey travel to kontris togeda and we go do a lot of projects togeda, and I dey really glad say I go represent Africa."
