 Age: 19
 Born and raised: Worksop, Nottinghamshire
 Occupation: Captain's Personal Steward
Service: After two months in the navy Danny found himself on HMS Gloucester heading for Dubai. He has been a steward for the last sixteen months and joined HMS Nottingham in June as the Captain's personal steward.
Previous Occupation: Danny spent his time prior to joining the navy working in a factory and also working as a plasterer. His father encouraged him to enter the navy, like his half-brother had done, to keep him on the straight and narrow.
Pastimes: He sees the navy as a good vehicle for picking up skills that can be used in later life such as firefighting and diving.
Best thing about the Navy: "The money!"
Danny might be considered to have the sea in his blood. His half-brother John Ells (second from right in the picture above), from Sheffield, also serves in the navy. It was here that he met his wife, Kirsty Ells (far right), whilst serving on HMS Endurance on their way to the South Pole. |
