At the moment Jonas Armstrong is a relatively unknown actor. However, soon he won't be able to walk down the street without being recognised. Jonas doesn't seem that fazed by the prospect. "That might be the case. We'll just have to see. [The cast] keep on taking the mickey saying [it's] all going to change." Jonas follows in a long line of actors playing the hooded man on film and TV: Douglas Fairbanks, Errol Flynn, Sean Connery and Kevin Costner have also took on the role. However, it was Michael Praed that made the role his own for the TV production of 'Robin of Sherwood' in the 1980s. For Jonas it's a case of Michael who? "I can't remember what Michael Praed looks like. I'm too young!" | | Robin 'Hoodie' |
The filming of the new TV series has actually taken place in the Hungarian capital Budapest, and not Sherwood Forest - the traditional home of the Robin Hood legend. However, Jonas feels people won't be disappointed by the change of location. "I didn't think it was going to be filmed in Hungary but when you see it it's understandable why they did it. The landscape is quite spectacular. It's amazing to look at." So the big question, any sign of the Lincoln green or even tights? "There's green. But there's no tights. I've got a leather hooded top. The costumes have got a very modern feel to them... Alan-a-Dale wears combat trousers. Very modern." Transmission of Robin Hood is expected in Autumn 2006 on BBC ONE. |
