The tall, slender sculpture in stainless steel slowly rotates and its height and elegance are said to counterbalance the horizontal lines of Bolero Square.
The abstract design reflects the themes of ice, skate blades and the way skaters and sports stars turn on the ice and has already won the approval of the National Ice Centre Trust.
The 19 metre high sculpture has been commissioned by Nottingham City Council with £80,000 funding from the Arts Council England regional arts lottery programme.
It has been designed by Nottingham art and design partnership Wolfgang and Heron who won national acclaim last year for their Angel Wings sculpture at the N1 Centre in Islington, London.
