Anna gets a rubbish shock!

BBC Radio York's Anna Wallace got a (smelly) surprise when colleagues surprised her with a bag of her own rubbish during a story about recycling!

Of course, as ever the Breakfast presenter reacted with good humour!

The stunt was to highlight how much we could ALL recycle, instead of always putting it into bin liners which end up in landfill.

David Hammond, a recycling officer from St Nicholas' Fields nature reserve in York, arrived at BBC Radio York's studios to help spring the joke on Anna.

David claimed to have a bag of "typical" rubbish which he needed Anna to go through. He told her it was to show how much of what ends up in the bin can actually be recycled - and so show how we could all reduce the amount we send to landfill.

As Anna picked her way through the wine bottles, the chipped plate and ironing board cover, she began to realise that it was actually HER rubbish that she was going through.

"The Breakfast presenter realised that she'd been had... again! "

David Hammond reserved judgement on Anna's recycling habits, whilst her on-air counterpart John Foster was merciless, giving her a measly 4/10 for her 'green' household habits.

The BBC would like to inform everyone that no radio presenters were harmed in this stunt, and that Anna's rubbish will now be taken to a recycling centre...
