About the Unit
This is a unit of four programmes looking at the world around us; comparing how people lived in the past, with life in Northern Ireland today and relating our local life-style choices to the health of the global environment.
About the Programme
Programme 6 - Rolling Back The Years
Broadcast: 14th June 2004 BBC 2 12.10-12.30pm

ARCHIVE - This episode is now part of our archive. This programme is still available to schools to borrow or purchase. Please see our ordering page for more information.

Sword fightThis programme follows two primary school teams as they do a project on the history of their town. The emphasis is on the skills used to carry out the project rather than presenting the story of the history of any one area, although aspects of the history of counties Down and Antrim form part of the content.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the programme and activities, pupils should be more aware of:
  • some similarities and differences between ways of life at different times
  • how some things have changed and some things have remained the same
  • how to use sources of information appropriate to their age and ability to gain information about an aspect of the past
  • how to extract factual information from a range of appropriate sources to make obvious statements about the past
