This is a unit of four programmes looking at the world around us; comparing how people lived in the past, with life in Northern Ireland today and relating our local life-style choices to the health of the global environment.

CityscapeThis programme investigates the increase in road traffic in Northern Ireland and its impact on the local and global environment.

Learning Outcomes


By the end of the programme and activities, pupils should be more aware of:

  • how to do a traffic survey
  • how weather affects aspects of life here and in other countries
  • ways in which the local and global environment are interdependent
  • the need to accept personal responsibility for different choices
  • how human activities create a variety of waste products
  • the differences between renewable and non-renewable energy resources and the need for fuel economy
