About the Unit
This is a unit of two programmes which concentrate on environmental action. We follow the progress of two schools as they work towards an Eco-School award and we explore the debate triggered by a proposed wind farm in North Antrim. Primary Focus is closely linked to the Northern Ireland Curriculum and many of the programmes are cross-curricular, touching on the areas of English, PSE, Citizenship, Geography, History, Art, Science, Media and The Way We Live.
About the Programme
Programme 5 - Geography: Eco-Schools

Rubbish BinThis programme follows the efforts of two Northern Ireland schools, Saints and Scholars Primary School in Armagh and Dunseverick Primary School in Bushmills, as they work towards earning their Eco-Schools flag.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the programme the pupils will have learned about:

  • how to carry out an environmental review of their school
  • how to set up and run an Eco-School committee
  • how to draft an action plan and implement it
  • how to plan, do and then review a project
  • how to choose appropriate methods to present the results of their project
  • how human activities create a variety of waste products
  • how some waste materials can be recycled and that this can be of benefit to the environment
  • some of the factors that contribute to good health
