What we do - Our ‘Citizenship for a Shared Future’ training programme sends young people from all backgrounds (aged 16 to 19) to overseas destinations in order to help widen their perspectives and develop the ability to promote ‘dialogue, learning and good relations’. Accredited by the NIOCN (Northern Ireland Open College Network) on three levels.
- Our ‘Future Voices’ follow-up programme develops the understanding and awareness of experienced young volunteers to facilitate peer-education programmes on issues important to young people.
- Our ‘Building Citizenship and Diversity’ programme runs citizen development workshops and residential courses for schools - all facilitated by skilled young people - on current themes of participation, diversity and change.
Examples of our work - Regional conferences and events in Northern Ireland where pupils from local Catholic and Protestant schools get together to develop new relationships and to discuss the contemporary and contentious issues normally avoided in our divided society. All pupils taking part also participate in preparation workshops initially delivered in their own schools.
- We also organise similar discussion and training workshops (again designed and run by NI young people) in schools in Oldham (England) which are facing problems stemming from the 2002 race riots between Asian and white young people.
