British Red Cross

The Red Cross movement is the world’s leading crisis response organisation. The British Red Cross aims to help people develop as active humanitarian citizens. We promote mutual understanding and respect for diversity across ethnic, gender, ability and race.

What we do

  • We teach first aid to young people in schools and youth groups through awareness training and certificated courses.
  • We carry out awareness talks and practical workshops about the Red Cross and humanitarian issues in schools and youth groups throughout the year.
  • We have an education section of our website where there are interesting issues to discuss and a wealth of resources to avail of.
  • We offer the chance for young people to take humanitarian action and volunteer for one or more of our services.

Examples of our work

  • Working with young people on a cross community and cross border project they completed a photography exercise on conflict which was exhibited in London, Belfast and throughout the UK.
  • Through a road safety campaign we taught life saving techniques to over 3,000 young people in June 2005 alone.
