Multicultural Resource Centre

The Multicultural Resource Centre (MCRC) working to advocate and promote human rights and equity through empowerment, collaboration and support of black and minority ethnic (BME) communities and individuals across NI.

What we do

  • Practical support for existing and emerging BME groups (community development training, office space, internet access, etc).
  • A children and young people project, providing social activities for young people and a specialised linguistic minority development worker.
  • Drop in / Outreach project supporting the most isolated and vulnerable families and individuals.
  • Research in highly specialised areas such as conditions for migrant workers, the Bangladeshi community, the 70+ minority ethnic languages spoken in NI, etc.
  • Bi-monthly mail-outs to over 300 organisations and individuals on forthcoming events, policies, job opportunities, etc (register on mailings@mcrc-ni.org)

Examples of our work

  • Everyday people drop in to the office to ask staff how to open a bank account, register with a doctor or to meet other people from their home country, check the news on the internet or send an email.
  • In collaboration with other organisations, we have provided support to asylum seekers who are sometimes arrested and detained. Our group of volunteers visits immigration detainees on a weekly basis.
