The Centre for Global Education

The Centre for Global Education is a resource base for global and developing world studies. It raises awareness of development issues in the formal and non-formal education sectors through the provision of services that include teacher training, the production of resources, the provision of a library and organisation of public seminars and events. Membership of the resource library entitles you to borrow a wide variety of resources - experimental learning packs, texts, CD Roms, big books and videos. This is a valuable service for all teachers and youth workers.

What we do

  • Act as a resource for research and education on global issues
  • Influence policy and decision-makers with respect to development education
  • Support the ongoing work of groups / organisations that foster social and economic equality at a local and global level
  • Liaise and network with relevant agencies and groups.
  • Encourage the use of development education methodologies to bring about change at a local and global level

Examples of our work

The BIG PIC is an educational web based resource. The website (www.bigpic.biz) is designed specifically for young people living in Northern Ireland, providing an opportunity for them to explore global issues specific to their local setting. (It incorporates the themes of the Local and Global Citizenship curriculum at Key Stage 3.)
