What we do Although the origins go back to 1995, ACTE was set up in September 2002 to: - Facilitate partnerships between education providers, policy makers, Muslim children and their families.
- Support schools to accommodate the needs of Muslim children with regard to their culture, education, faith and language.
- The main focus of ACTE is to enable Muslim pupils and parents to engage in an active dialogue with the education system.
- The management committee of ACTE consists of parents from black and minority backgrounds, members of community associations, education psychologists, teachers and educationalists, and those involved in promoting a society drawn from different cultures.
Examples of our work - Promote greater understanding and awareness of Muslim culture and civilisation to the wider community. • To engage and facilitate Muslim parents to recognise their role and their responsibilities in helping to promote diversity in the curriculum and the mainstream education system in Northern Ireland.
- To create a bridge between the education system and the Muslim community by promoting constructive dialogue to accommodate faith, culture, language and ethical requirements.
- To work with teachers and policy makers to identify practical ways to adapt to religious, cultural and linguistic diversity.
- Produce relevant teaching materials for the language, citizenship and human rights curricula.
