Ode To The Bite Of The Cherry
by Colm McCrudden

Oh the delight of the bite of the cherry.
Intoxicated mind,cloudy but merry.
It could be a glass of champange.
The pint,a scotch or wee sherry.
All shall succumb to the bite of the cherry.

We vowed to stop drinking
"Never again"
But one look at that glass,
sure it would drive you insane.
Sparkling amber nectar
Or the blonde with the black skirt.
We try in vain to resist it.
In our minds with it flirt.

It matters not where you hail from,
Should it be Belfast,Cork or Derry.
The first sip it will seduce you.
"Consumed"
By the bite of the cherry.
