Rip’s Last Walk
by George

A doggy hasn’t tons of sense
He couldn’t tell you pounds from pence
He can’t divine the thoughts of man
Just eats and plays when e’re he can

And so it happened one fine day
Or maybe it was dull and grey
When Rip was munching on a bone
A little snack his very own

Outside his house this little scene
Where all was peaceful and serene
Was destined for an utter change
Which goes to show that fate is strange

A girl came by and greeted Rip
And then ignored a useful tip
‘Don’t touch a dog while eating food’
So tragedy alas ensued

He didn’t bite I’m sure that’s right
But gave the girl a sudden fright
She ranted raved and shrieked and squealed
And then the fate of Rip was sealed

A short time later came a van
And out of this there stepped a man
He then advanced and had his say
‘We’ve come to take your dog away’

From out the house old Rip was led
And sense he did a mortal dread
His paws dug in to halt the strain
But struggles they were all in vain

Goodbye old pal and faithful friend
And what a way to meet your end
You cheered us when we had a frown
But this cruel world it let you down.
