Omagh born Walter Pancott joined the Enniskillen Fusilliers before war broke out in 1939.Once war was declared, he fought on some of the most dangerous battlefields in Europe until he was taken prisoner by Germany and sent to a POW camp near Berlin.

He was there for eighteen months and there were times he didn't think he would survive the deprivation of the camp.
