HERDMAN'S MILL

Efforts have begun to restore the slowly decaying Herdman's Mill.

The iconic image of Sion Mills is the towering chimney of the famous Herdman’s Mill that for almost 200 years dominated life in and around the little village on the banks of the Mourne river. When the mill closed in 2004 it faced an uncertain future despite having listed buildings- but thanks to the work of the Sion Mills Preservation Trust the Mill is looking to reinvent itself as Barry Byrne found out when he was invited to see recent renovation work at the Mill.
