Using Clips in Powerpoint

As the clips here are in streaming format only, you cannot download them to your machine. However, you can still include the videos in a presentation.

You will need to connect to the internet at the time you want to play the clip in the presentation.

  1. Make your presentation in the usual way. Make a slide for your video and include some words about the clip.
  2. Go to the website and select your clip.
  3. Move your mouse over the SHARE button below the clip window and choose LINK to this. The clip location should already be highlighted so Ctrl-C and go back to your presentation.
  4. Select the text on your page, go to the Insert menu, and choose Hyperlink. A dialogue box will appear. In the Address field at the bottom, paste the location of the clip. You can do this with Ctrl-V (or Command-V on a Mac).
  5. Here is what a typical clip address looks like:
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/ni/newsfactory/clips/obama_portraits
  6. Click OK in the Edit Hyperlink box and the text in your presentation becomes a link. Usually the text becomes underlined and its colour changes. This means it is active.
  7. Save your presentation and then open it again as a full screen presentation.
  8. Go to the video page and click the hyperlink. You must be connected to the Internet for the link to work.
  9. After a few moments a video player will appear and soon the video will play.
