The Black Bird Bookclub

The Blackbird Bookclub, in association with the Seamus Heaney Centre for Poetry and the Bookshop at Queen’s, will include a series of workshops with some of Northern Ireland’s most respected writers and will cover genres from comic fiction to memoir and social history.

Novelist Glenn Patterson, poet Ciaran Carson are just some of those who will be hosting seminars as part of a series of lectures beginning this Autumn. The series will showcase, the wealth of talent being produced within the university. We will cover a series of genres from comic fiction to memoir and social history. Guest writers will include: Malachi O’Doherty, Christopher Marsh, Ian Sansom, Raymond O’ Regan, Polly Devlin, Sinead Morrissey and Andrew Pepper.

The Blackbird Bookclub (part 1) will run for 10 weeks, starting 27th September 2010, with part 2 of the course beginning 24th January 2011.

The class meets on Mondays between 11am and 1pm in the Senate Room, Queen's University.

11th October - Guest lecture/reading with Polly Devlin.

18th October - Colm Toibin, Brooklyn.

25th October - Guest lecture/reading with Raymond O Reagan, Belfast.

1st November - David Park, The Truth Commissioner

8th November - Guest lecture/reading with Andrew Pepper.

15th November - Martin McDonagh, The Beauty Queen of Leenane.

22nd November - Guest lecture/reading with Chris Marsh, A Year in the Province.

29th November - Heaney, Muldoon and Longley. 

New Year, 2011

24th January - Guest lecture/reading with Sinead Morrissey.

7th February - Guest lecture/reading with Malachi O’Doherty.

21st February - Guest lecture/reading with Ciaran Carson.

7th March - Guest lecture/reading with Ian Sansom.
