What do children think of Australia's new under 16s social media ban?

Australia is about to become the first country in the world to bring in a social media ban for all under-16s.

From 10 December no one under that age will be able to open a new account and all existing accounts will be shut down.

The ban will affect lots of different platforms including Facebook, TikTok, Snapchat and YouTube - although it won't apply to YouTube Kids.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says the ban is needed to protect young people from the "harms" of social media.

But although critics agree that more is needed to keep young people safe online, they argue that a ban isn't the answer.

Newsround has been speaking to children both in Australia and in the UK to see what they think of the upcoming ban.
