The winners of this year's Underwater Photographer of the Year competition have been announced.

Every year, it celebrates some of the incredible scenes that can be found under the ocean, in rivers and lakes and even in swimming pools.

The 2026 competition received more than 7,934 entries from around the world, showing everything from tiny sea creatures to huge underwater landscapes.

Australian photographer Matty Smith was revealed as the top winner, for his photo of two very cute elephant seal pups resting in a rockpool in the Falkland Islands.

He explained: "Once the pups are weaned... I watched dozens clamber over one another in shallow rockpools, awkwardly learning to swim."
