Who’s through to the Champions League knock-outs?

The top eight teams are now confirmed for the knock-out phase of the Champions League - the part of the competition where losing means going home.
This season, English teams have been especially strong. Five of the eight teams that have qualified automatically are from the Premier League.
Arsenal finished top of the table, with Liverpool in third place. Tottenham ended fourth, Chelsea finished sixth, and Manchester City claimed the final automatic spot in eighth.
The other three teams to reach the knock-outs came from across Europe.
Bayern Munich represent Germany, Barcelona qualified from Spain, and Sporting Lisbon made it through for Portugal.

Play-off drama to come

Benfica’s Anatoliy Trubin became just the fifth goalkeeper to score in the Champions League
Teams that finished between ninth and 24th place are not out yet, but they must now play extra matches called play-offs to try to reach the last 16.
That applies to Newcastle United, and if they win their next two matches, a record six English teams could reach the knock-out rounds – something that has never happened before.
Some other famous clubs did not make the top eight and now face the play-offs too.
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) missed out after drawing 1-1 with Newcastle, while Spanish giants Real Madrid were involved in one of the most dramatic games of the tournament.
Reduced to just nine players, Real were beaten 4-2 by Benfica, with Benfica's goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin scoring a last-second goal to secure a memorable win and a play-off place.

Other well-known teams heading into the play-offs include Juventus and Inter Milan from Italy, Borussia Dortmund from Germany, and Atletico Madrid from Spain.
Atletico were shocked by Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt, one of the surprise teams of the competition.
Bodo/Glimt have impressed many fans, beating Atletico just days after also defeating Manchester City.
Who could the Premier League clubs meet in the Champions League knock-outs?

Arsenal
Arsenal could face Atalanta, Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund or Olympiakos.
Chelsea
Chelsea’s last 16 opponents could be one of Monaco, Newcastle, Paris St-Germain or Qarabag.
Liverpool
Liverpool will take on Atletico Madrid, Club Brugge, Galatasaray or Juventus.
Man City
City will play Benfica, Bodo/Glimt, Inter Milan or Real Madrid.
Tottenham
Spurs will face Atletico Madrid, Club Brugge, Galatasaray or Juventus
Newcastle
Newcastle will face either Monaco or Qarabag in the play-off round and then either Barcelona or Chelsea if they reach the last 16.
