It's time to return to a galaxy far, far away as Star Wars is coming back to the big screen.

This time the Mandalorian and Grogu (otherwise known as baby Yoda) are making the jump from Disney+ to the cinema, in their first feature length film.

The newest trailer for the film dropped this week, so here's everything you need to know about The Mandalorian and Grogu movie so far.

The film is the first Star Wars feature film in almost seven years, since J.J. Abrams' The Rise of Skywalker, which released at Christmas 2019.

The film has been directed by Jon Favreau, the creative mind behind the television series and co-written by Favreau and Dave Filoni (The Clone Wars & Ahsoka).

It will be out in cinemas in May - and if the trailer is anything to go by, the Hutts are back to cause trouble, and this time they've brought their friends...

Baby Yoda is back

'Baby Yoda' real name, Grogu - is probably the cutest thing EVER to happen to Star Wars.

During his travels in the the Disney+ series, Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin meets Grogu - who is the same species as iconic Star Wars character Yoda.

Discovering that the remains of the evil Galactic Empire want to kidnap Grogu, Din decides to protect him.

In the trailer, we see a snap of Grogu nomming on his favourite snack, blue macaroons, messing about with spaceship buttons and walking about with a distinctly Yoda-ish staff.

Although appearing to be a child, Grogu is actually more than 50 years old, as the species ages much slower than humans. He has been alive to witness many of the key events in the Star Wars universe.

And several years earlier, Grogu had trained to become a Jedi, but has forgotten much of his past or how to use the force - the energy that gives a Jedi their power - properly.

Pedro Pascal is back and centre stage

Pedro pascal is back as the legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin. The trailer teases a sneak peak of him with his helmet off - a big deal for Mandalorians.

"The kid will live centuries beyond me," we hear him say - as he rescues a spluttering Grogu out of water.

"I won't always be around to protect him."

Funny that, because Pascal also told Newsrounders he'd play the role of Din Djarin the Mandalorian for the rest of his life.

In season 3 of the Disney series, Pascal's filming commitments for other projects, and the physical strain of wearing the suit, meant that it was often his stunt double in the costume during filming.

This time, however, it looks like he's back in the armour for the movie.

What's the story?

The new film starts in galaxy where the the evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy.

The New Republic is working to protect everything the Rebellion fought for and has enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin and his young apprentice Grogu.

From the trailer it looks like the dynamic duo head to Nar Shaddaa - a Hutt-controlled moon. The Empire may have fallen, but there's plenty of dodgy characters still about...

Who else is in the film?

As well as Pascal as the Mandalorian, Legendary actor, Sigourney Weaver is on board as Colonel Ward, while another famous name, Jeremy Allen White voices Rotta the Hutt - the son of the notorious, Jabba the Hutt.

The latest trailer includes a new look at Zeb Orrelios from the animated series, Rebels - now flying for the New Republic

Other characters also make an appearance such as Kyuzo bounty hunter, Embo who appeared in another animated show, The Clone Wars.

There's also a look at an Ardennian - an alien with four arms - that's a deep fat frying cook.

Lucasfilm has confirmed that the cook is voiced by Hollywood legendary director Martin Scorsese.

Din is seen back behind the controls of his old ship the Razor Crest and the weenie Anzellans, from The Rise of Skywalker, are also back - this time seen travelling on a high-speed craft and on a mission with Grogu.

In the trailer the creepy and shadowy Embo is seen skulking along, during a dark, rainy night, while one of two Hutts says, "You will suffer, and then it will be his turn." Eeeek.

So lightsabers ready, Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu will be in cinemas from 22 May.
