MIA says her upcoming album will be the last she makes with her US label.

She says not being able to get a visa to travel to the US means she'll be unable to promote any new material.

She tweeted: "I am handing my last LP in to my American label this week. It'll be up to them if its released. I don't have visa to promote or speak!", external

The 40-year-old, whose real name is Maya Arulpragasam, has been working on an audio and video project called Matahdatah.

The singer has been caught in a number of controversies in recent years.

Her recent track Borders led to complaints from French football club Paris Saint-Germain after dancers in her music video were shown wearing their official shirt with their sponsor's name changed.

And she was sued by the NFL over a Super Bowl performance in 2012.

Although MIA said this would be her last recording with her US label, Interscope, she hasn't said that she's retiring from making music.

She tweeted: "Can't tour the US without a visa - might have to start writing songs 4 Dj Khaled and Selena Gomez to get heard.", external
