Auction site eBay says it has removed action figure dolls based on the movie Django Unchained on sale from its website.
The film, which went on general release in the UK last week, was directed by Quentin Tarantino.
A spokesperson for eBay said that the dolls "were in violation of eBay's Offensive Materials policy".
Django Unchained has been nominated for five Oscars, including best picture.
The film is a Western set in slavery-era Mississippi and stars Jamie Foxx, Samuel L. Jackson and Leonardo DiCaprio.
It's thought civil rights groups in the States had complained about the dolls when they were released for general sale.
It's thought consumers then attempted to sell them through eBay.
"The dolls were removed because they were in violation of eBay's Offensive Materials policy.
"We don't allow listings that are deemed racially or ethnically offensive, unless they have substantial social, artistic, or political value.
"We carefully consider all the details before deciding to remove such listings when they're brought to our attention."
Newsbeat tried to contact the film makers for comment but emails and phone calls had not been answered on Friday.
