1. It's the French first couple. Mr Sarkozy and his wife have not been invited as the wedding will not be a full state occasion. Serbia's Crown Prince Alexander is the Queen's godson, while King Constantine of Greece is Prince William's godfather.
2. It's the marathon. In what is thought to be a first for world athletics, a full-length marathon for two-legged robots has begun in Osaka. Five knee-high androids will take days to walk the full 42km. Battery-changes and repairs to the athletes are allowed - but if the robots fall over, they're expected to get up by themselves.
3. It's the definition of marriage. In a major policy change, Mr Obama says his administration will no longer defend a federal law which defines marriage exclusively as a union between a man and a woman. This week, a Human Rights Watch criticised the US for not having paid maternity leave, and some senators are currently pushing to expand checks for all gun sales.
4. It's the Tasman Glacier. According to scientists, the chunk that was broken off is estimated to have been 1,200m long by 75m wide.

There is a tradition of naming shuttles after ships. One of its forerunners was the vessel used in the early 1600s by Henry Hudson to explore Hudson Bay and search for a Northwest passage from the Atlantic to the Pacific.
