An investigation is under way after a boy at a special needs school in Powys died.
Hillcrest Pentwyn School in Clyro, near Hay-on-Wye, is a residential school for boys with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties.
The school is run by Hampshire-based Hillcrest, an independently owned and run social enterprise organisation and has pupils from across the UK.
The boy is said to have died on Monday.
'Internal investigation'
Roger Colvin, the chief executive of Hillcrest, said: "It is with deep regret that we confirm the death of a young man at one of our residential special schools.
"We are conducting a full internal investigation and are working with the local police, coroner's office and regulatory bodies to assist with their inquiries. For these reasons, we are unable to provide any further information at this stage.
"We are of course giving extra support to the other young people we care for at this difficult time."
He added: "Our thoughts are with his family and friends and on behalf of the staff and management we wish to express our sadness at this distressing news."
A spokesman for the Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales said it was notified of the incident on Monday.
A spokesman added: "The police are the lead agency and are undertaking an investigation into the circumstances. It would be inappropriate to comment further at this time."
