A man has been fined and banned from driving after he was caught speeding at 119mph on the M9.

Paul Nelson was caught driving almost 50mph over the speed limit on the motorway near Bannockburn.

The 60-year-old, of Dunblane, admitted the offence at Stirling Sheriff Court. Police said he had "placed both himself and other road users at risk".

He was given a £500 fine and banned from driving for six months.

Insp Andrew Thomson, from the road policing unit in Stirling, said: "All drivers and riders need to be persuaded that driving at inappropriate speeds is not a minor, technical offence that everyone commits, but a serious, dangerous and anti-social activity."
