A coroner has recorded an open verdict into the death of a Scottish man in France.

Andrew Watt was found dead in a country lane in Pays de la Loire, in the north-west of the country, in 2010.

Coroner Andrew Tweddle recorded the conclusion after a hearing in Durham on Wednesday.

His mother, Julie Sheppard, of Ettrickbridge in the Scottish Borders, has campaigned for more information about the 31-year-old's death.

Mr Watt lived in Durham before moving to France.

Following his death, it took three months for Mr Watt's body to be returned to the UK but some organs were missing.

His heart and brain were eventually returned after six months.
