Scottish Borders flood risk reduces

Improved weather has helped to ease the flood risk in the Scottish Borders.

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency has removed the specific flood warning issued overnight for the area surrounding the Lyne Water.

However, an alert remains in place for the whole region following the incessant rain of the past few days on already saturated ground.

Wednesday night saw flooding at the entrance to Borders General Hospital and roads in Darnick and Melrose.

There were also problems on the A7 around Selkirk, around Jedburgh on the A68, and on the A72 at Dirtpot Corner and around Innerleithen.

Brighter weather has been forecast but with standing water still on many roads, drivers are being warned to take extra care and drive to the conditions.
