
Lorries bound for Dover are being held on the M20
Fishing industry jobs could go and trawlers may have to sit idle if disruption around the Channel ports continues, it has been claimed.
There has been disruption to the Channel Tunnel and industrial action by farmers who have been blockading roads.
Will Clark, chairman of the Scottish Seafood Association and who has his own small firm in Peterhead, said the product cannot get through.
He warned cold storage space was beginning to run out.
Trucks trying to get into France have been parked up on the M20 in Kent until the situation improves.
Lost orders
The Orkney Fisheries Association said live crab and lobster are shipped to Spain and Portugal by special lorries circulating sea water around in large holding tanks to keep them alive.
If the shellfish begin to die they release ammonia into the water which can set off a chain reaction killing the rest of the consignment.
In Shetland, QA Fish of Scalloway - which processes scallops, lobsters, cod, monkfish and haddock for markets in Europe - said it had lost orders to customers in Spain and Switzerland.
