Hammond 'demands' Syria chemical weapons probe
UK Defence Secretary Philip Hammond has demanded that Syrian president President Bashar al-Assad allows a United Nations (UN) team to investigate whether chemical weapons have been used in the country.
Speaking on the Andrew Marr show, Mr Hammond said the UK and the US were alarmed by "limited but persuasive evidence" that chemical weapons use may have taken place.
He said both governments were keen to establish the facts and put them before the international community- ideally the UN.
