Marlborough Town Council has granted the freedom of the town to 4 Military Intelligence Battalion.
The branch of the Intelligence Corps is based at nearby Bulford Barracks and Marlborough Town Council had sought to forge a civic link with the military.
The event was marked with a parade and the awarding of campaign medals.
Mayor Alexander Kirk Wilson said it gave him "great satisfaction" to welcome the battalion and grant them freedom of entry into Marlborough.
Lt Col Ben Kite, Commanding Officer 4 Military Intelligence Battalion, called it a "particular honour" to receive the freedom of the town.
"I hope that the day will lay the foundations for a continued strong relationship between the town and battalion over the years to come," he said.
