No action is to be taken against Sunderland footballer Titus Bramble, who was arrested over the alleged rape of a woman at a Newcastle hotel.
The Premier League defender and his brother, Tesfaye, were arrested at the Vermont Hotel on 22 September after a 19-year-old woman complained to police.
Northumbria Police said no further action was to be taken against 29-year-old Bramble.
His 30-year-old brother remains on police bail pending further inquiries.
Club's backing
Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn said: "Naturally the last few weeks have been difficult for Titus and I hope that those who condemned him without being in possession of the facts will now offer their apologies.
"From day one Titus categorically refuted the allegations made against him and the club backed him 100%.
"I'm delighted that this has now been resolved and Titus can continue his growing career at Sunderland Football Club."
Bramble, a former England Under-21 international, joined the club from Wigan in the summer.
His older brother has played international football for Montserrat and appeared in the Football League for Southend United and Stockport County.
He most recently played non-league football for Felixstowe and Walton United.
