A doorman suffered life changing injuries at the Trek club on Tuesday

A nightclub has been closed down after neighbours were forced to sleep in bathrooms to escape the "noise of fighting, shouting and swearing".

Recent violence at the Trek nightclub in Seaford includes a doorman being left with life-changing and up to 20 people being involved in a mass brawl.

Lewes District Council suspended the club's licence until a review next month.

Trek's manager said the club had not had the support of the police.

'Living in fear'

Jean Irving, head of licensing and public safety at Sussex Police, said she and officers met residents and were told "horrifying stories".

"These included being forced to sleep in their bathrooms at the back of their houses to avoid the noise of fighting, shouting and swearing keeping them awake.

"They told us of customers of the Trek defecating on their doorsteps and them living in fear for their own safety," she said.

Ch Insp Rob Leet said the enforcement action had been taken as a "last resort".

He said one neighbour had told him: "The violence has dramatically escalated this year and has at times been very frightening."

Yvonne Newton-Turner, who has run the Trek nightclub for 31 years, said: "The notice was served on us while we were out of the country in Italy, so we don't know a lot about it.

"There was an incident but we haven't had the support of the police for quite some time.

"The next thing we knew they waited until we were out of the country to serve notice when we couldn't defend ourselves.

"We really don't know what's going to happen now."
