Australian-born Muriel Matters lived at the property in Pelham Crescent, Hastings
A blue plaque honouring the life of a leading suffragette has been unveiled at her former East Sussex home.
Muriel Matters was a prominent member of the Women's Freedom League who lived in Pelham Crescent, Hastings.
She stood for election as MP in the town in 1924 and died, aged 92, at a nursing home in St Leonards.
The plaque was unveiled by Hastings Borough Council alongside a delegation from Australia, where Ms Matters was born.
In 1909, Ms Matters chained herself to a grille in the Ladies' Gallery of the House of Commons.
The Muriel Matters Society said the grille was seen as a symbol of oppression as it obscured women's view of parliamentary debates.
