Ipswich's market runs for four days a week in front of the town hall

Ipswich market is to have a change of management from September.

Geraud UK's five-year lease ends in August and Ipswich Borough Council has decided not to renew the contract.

A spokesman for the council, which will run the market itself, said: "The market is not moving or closing - we think we could help it thrive."

John Connolly, business and contracts manager for Geraud UK, said: "We're very disappointed - it's a great place and a great market."

Ipswich Borough Council said stall holders would be spoken to at the "first available opportunity".

The market currently runs four days a week - on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

The council could not confirm whether this would remain the case.
