
Some services at Royal Stoke University Hospital were affected when power generators failed
A hospital declared a major incident after a loss of power left patients lying in the dark and staff unable to access computer systems.
Back-up power generators at Royal Stoke University Hospital failed during a power cut at about 19:00 BST on Thursday night, a spokesman confirmed.
Wards lights went out, while blood results and X-rays were inaccessible.
After the initial failure of the generators, power was restored and the incident was dealt with by 21:00 BST.

A spokesman for the trust said power had been maintained to critical care, accident and emergency and other "essential" areas.
They added: "A full investigation will now take place."
