
School closures have meant some children have made the most of the snow, sledging in Leek's Brough Park
Snow in Staffordshire and parts of Cheshire has closed more than 100 schools across the counties.
Travel was severely affected throughout the morning but the A53 in Staffordshire between Leek and Buxton has reopened and there is no further serious disruption on the roads.
A lorry, which jack-knifed in Uttoxeter, has also been cleared.
The Highways Agency has warned ice and snow may continue to make conditions difficult and cause some delays.
More snow is forecast for the Staffordshire Moorlands, with heavy showers expected in Leek and the Roaches, external throughout the evening, but most other areas are due to become milder, according to the Met Office, external.

Heavy snow fell on the Roaches area of Staffordshire overnight
Paul Speed, in Flash, on the Staffordshire Moorlands, said there was about 12ins (30cm) of snow in the area, although snow ploughs had been running through the night and the main roads were largely clear.
Staffordshire County Council's Mark Deauville said snow ploughs had cleared the worst affected areas such as Ipstones and Oakamoor.
He said gritters and snowploughs would remain out on the main routes and town centres on Friday and Saturday, as needed.
