Designs for a major housing development in Oxford have been unveiled.

Barton Park will provide up to 885 new homes, including 354 affordable homes, as well as a food store, primary school and a nature park.

It is being built by Barton Oxford, a venture between Oxford City Council and Grosvenor Developments, off the A40 Northern Bypass.

Council leader Bob Price said there would be a "strong emphasis on selling to local people and first-time buyers".

The £47.9m development will take place in three phases.

The housing development for the first phase went on display as part of a public consultation.

Developer Hill is preparing the planning application for 237 homes to be submitted over the summer.

Barton Oxford said work was due to commence in late July on new park, ponds, play spaces and cycleways, the A40 access junction, the primary street and landscaping and the commercial square.

The first homes are expected to be transferred to the council in late 2016.
